T3 Overdrive

$

A couple years back I bought a T3 as a reserve in case my T1 developed problems. This spring, after something fell on my T1 while I was reading, causing a 1/8" divot in the screen (amazingly, the T1 is still usable except the divot blocks some text) I switched over to the T3.

When I first switched, I tried Overdrive and didn't get anywhere. Tried again last night and after some initial difficulty getting the login screen to load, I was actually able to download a book.

Now if I could just have the t1's default font, and if I could find a skin to cover up the red bezel, I'd be really happy with the T3. (Red was what was available at the time I bought it - thought I'd get used to it but it still bugs me.)

PRS-600 Shopping for a Refurb

Hello Sony Folk,

I'm looking at a refurbished Sony Digital Reader Touch Edition (PRS600RC).

Watching video reviews I have not seen this reader have any option for changing the font. The SIZE of the font can be changed, yes, but does the reader provide any option for using a different font? Or will it only display the font in the original file? (I use epubs).

Also, if anyone would like to share their impressions of and experience with this reader it would be very welcome.

Many thanks!

RP1 - is this wavy screen faulty or the norm?

Hi people, I had a little difference of opinions with a seller concerning the status of screen of my newly acquired RP1 (hacked JP version);) . As neither of us can persuade the other, I had no choice but to turn to our wise forum members for your thoughts. Any input will be much appreciated. :thanks:

What happened:

1. I had a US-version RP1 for a while, but parted with it. I ordered a hacked Japanese RP1 online and was appalled to find the surface of screen was clearly uneven both to the eye and to the touch. Much worse than the US-version which I owned and used daily for over a month. I believe the device is faulty, and asked the seller for a return or exchange.

2. The seller said this is usual with flexible screens. This happens to a lot of other RP1s. There is nothing wrong with the unit.

3. I know flexible screens may be uneven. My previous device is so. But I don't think a screen this wavy can be counted as normal.

4. I need to find what is the norm.

Please if you own an RP1 could you share if your screen is as wavy or better? I attach a pic of mine for your verdict

On my digital paper, it shows wifi is connected, but the digital paper can't connect digital paper app via wifi. Plug-in and Bluetooth work both fine. I use 64-bit Win 10. Anyone could solve the problem?

Update: I found that I could use connect digital paper app via wifi on my girlfriend's Macbook. Is win 10 64-bit version of digital paper app buggy?

FeliCa cards

Anyone have experience with them?

I know it is a technology primarily used in Japan and US NFC will not work. Can one buy a blank FeliCa card though and use it or does it need to be programmed via a reader/writer first? Based on what I’m seeing on the RP1 and looking at documentation I’m not sure what the device would really be looking for a card to have already programmed on it. I’ve even seen FeliCa circular tags that can be purchased as well.

Would be great if I could just attach a card to my standard work lanyard or attach a circular tag somewhere and use it.

PRS-T1 Complete brick?

When attempting to switch on my PRS-T1, all I get out of it is an almost instant orange flashing light at the power button. Display is frozen on Chapter 82 of some book and has not changed at all since this started happening. If I plug it into a Windows PC, nothing is recognized, no internal memory, no SD card, no unknown device in the device manager, nothing. The light turns solid red with still the blinking orange light. If I unplug the USB and press the reset button followed by the power button, the reader switches off after a few seconds (no more blinking orange light).

The rescue method with the rupor rescue OS firmware folder on root of SD card, and boot with home and menu buttons pressed does not work. Nothing happens other that the orange light starting to blink almost immediately...

I even replaced the battery. That didn't change anything. Tried all the reset methods I could find, absolutely no luck...

Anything I can try at this point?

PRS-T2 Used T2 revived

I bought the last weekend an used T2 from the local flea market.
It worked almost as new, except that one could not access some submenus in the settings nor other subpages in various device's own menus.

I looked into google and the only solution that worked (the others were simply misleading, to say it politically neutral :) ) was found in this forum - namely I was looking for a hard reset.

After a hard reset, I managed to get it in a full working state. I noticed the fact that it was "updated" to kobo bookshop, and it appears that this was the cause for its malfunction.

I decided to post this here, just in case, as I noticed there were a few threads about bricking Sony PRS series after updating to the last FW (kobo). I do not exclude that there might be other issues some FW may cause that cannot be cured this way, but I suggest people should hard reset it first then go other methods...

Hope it helps!

PS: With the Reader powered on, on the bottom of the device, press and hold the Power button until the Device Shutdown screen appears.
In the Device Shutdown screen, press Yes.
Press the Power button again to turn the Reader on.
While the screen displays opening book..... , simultaneously press and hold down the Page Turn (Next) and Back buttons.

Allow the Home screen to fully load (Loading... should no longer flash in the top left corner of your screen) and then do the following button sequence while still holding down the Page Turn (Next) and Back buttons:
Release - Press - Release the Back button only and then Release the Page Turn (Next) button.
In the Would you like to execute Factory Initialize screen, press Yes.
Press the Power button again to turn on the Reader. The Reader will be set to factory settings.

PRS-T1 I need help to un-brick it

Let me start with what I did to get to this point:
1. I rooted the device when it had the 1.0.05 firmware
----- did not use it for about a year
----- decided to read some of the books on my sd card
----- installed Sony's application for Windows and saw that new firmware is available. So without even researching, pulled the trigger and installed 1.0.07
----- did not like it and there was no way to root it, and wanted to go back to 1.0.05

2. After a bit of research found out that in case to downgrade the firmware i need to edit the hex values from 1.0.07 to 1.0.03.
3. got the mmcblk2.img, edited the values, put it back and restored it to the device

4. Obviously something got screwed and now I'm stuck with flashing screen whenever I turn on the reader. (Once it stops flashing, gets vertical black line that occurs in different parts of the screen)

NOTE: The reader is not recognized as usb device nor in serial connection
Tried rupor-rescue but I can't get it to be recognized (I am using Linux and Windows).

I also have a backup of the mmcblk2.img and was thinking if there was a way to write a script that can be triggered on boot from the SD Card to restore the working image...

Any help is appreciated!!!

I've been looking at a Kmashi powerbank for my phone and wondered if it was safe for my PRS-T1 as well.
It claims 3.1A output, and I seem to recall something link .5-1A is recommended for these readers.

Anyone able to provide some advice or insight?

Latest version of Calibre 3.10 64bits used, Windows 7 and an old PRST2...

I've been using Calibre for years now on this device and since a few versions I have difficulties to transmit books to the device.

I will attach screendumps of my last problem:
  • book selected in calibre and sent to device:
  • task finishes correctly
  • switched view to the sd card of the device
  • the path and file names are correct BUT the author and title is wrong
  • stangely this was the author and title of the last book entered in the main library on the PC
Any ideas?

PRS-505 Sideloading Possible?

$

0
I have a PRS-505 and a PRS-300, bought used without software and have not been able to use them yet due to not being able to do a simple sideload of books, unlike my Kindle and Kobo readers. I have also not been able to find a download of the Sony control software for my 32 bit PC running Windows XP.

Any links to side loading instructions or a source of an early version of the Sony reader files control software for my antique PC?

Based on web searches I get the impression that the early Sony e-readers may be useless without the software for a computer and a check of the Kobo site indicates that the current software is not available for anything prior to Windows 8.:help:

DPT-RP1 sync to OneDrive broken since FCU

Ever since the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the Digital Paper App refuses to sync to local OneDrive folders. This used to work just fine.

Has anyone found a workaround for this? And also, is there anyone that installed the FCU and who can still sync to a OneDrive folder?

Symptoms:
- I cannot set a OneDrive folder as the sync folder
- existing OneDrive sync setting now gives an error when trying to sync

Prevent SETUP partition/volume from mounting (macOS X)

$

The SETUP volume mounting annoys me for a couple of reasons:

1. calibre does not eject it
2. I do not want to use the setup files.

I found my own solution, on macOS X, to prevent the SETUP partition from mounting:

$ diskutil info /Volumes/SETUP

This gives us the UUID of the volume we are interested in, ready for the next part

$ sudo pico /etc/fstab

UUID=5B7F482A-CBB1-371D-9739-7823473EEA35 none msdos ro,noauto

To save the file press Control+X, then press Y, and then press Enter to confirm.

$ sudo automount -vc

This refreshes the automount settings.

Voila, no more SETUP mounting when you plug in the reader.
