PRS-T1 Modified Reader: jump to bookmarks/annotations by pressing < or >?

Hi! To save battery, I un-rooted my PRS-T1, so I'm back using the original Reader app as well. I'll probably also add some of the modifications by morkl. But a feature I really miss is an instant, menu-less way to jump to bookmarks and/or annotations.

E.g. double-pressing ">" would take me to next bookmark (from current page) and double-pressing "<" would take me to previous bookmark.

Is it possible to add this feature to the original Reader app? (The "jump to annotation" command is in the menu -- but can you actually add custom button shortcuts to menu commands?)

PRS-505 Battery replacement

After 7 years of flawless performance, it seems that the battery of my Sony PRS-505 has finally died.

I've been looking for battery replacement options. I found a battery replacement kit (brand newpower99) that looks good, but for whatever reason they won't ship to Argentina. Amazon also sells this kit, but for what I know they ship with FedEx, a courier that has very poor service in Argentina.

Right now, the only way to extend the life of my reader would be to find a cell phone battery that fits in the PRS-505 battery compartment. It's a standard 3.7 Li battery, so I think it should work.

Has anybody here used a cell phone battery to replace the original one? If so, which one? Does anybody know the original battery size?

Help removing the 200 char limit in rooted T2

Hi:

First of all I must say that I'm always using the default Sony Reader app in the device to take notes and highlights.

I had before a rooted T1 and I didn't encounter any problem to export the highlights and notes in all its length, no matter if I had highlighted a full page.

There were three different ways to export the entire highlights taken by the Reader app in T1:
-Using Yoths app: PRST1 Annotations Exporter.
-Using SQLITSpy to copy all the notes and highlights of the Books.db in thedevice.
-Importing the book into the Reader for PC and then using the option to export all notes and highlight to a RTF file.

Now, none of these three methods works with the rooted T2, and the highlights are truncated at the 200 character limit.

It seems there is no 200 char limit exporting the highlight to Evernote, but the big problem with Evernote is there's no way to upload all the notes and highlights in one go. If I annotate a 500 pages academic book, that means a lot of notes that I have taken when I was off-line. I can't upload them to Evernote one by one.

There's a Morkl modified Reader for the TS1, but I don't know if I can't use it in T2 and I don't either know if it removes the char limit.

For weeks I'm searching for a solution to this and I'm not sure if there is one.
I must find it or give up in order not to get crazy.

As I said before, I want to use the Reader app in the device and not another one (like Coolreader, Mantano, etc.)

PRS-300 Books showing in Calibre not showing the whole book on reader

I got my silver PRS-300 on Tuesday & have 15 books on it, which are all classics. When I put some different genre of books on it, the size of the book ends up showing 0.0 on the device part of Calibre when I put them on the device. What's going on? Will I have to put them on via ADE or what?

PRS-T2 German dict

I occasionally read in German and I find the build-in dictionary rather annoying for two reasons:
- separable verbs are not in separate entries, and you have to look for them under the main verb;
- (mainly) many compound words are listed under the main entry and again you have to look under the main substantive.
If you have a better dictionary to recommend, I'd also like to hear how to install it. Thanks.

PRS-T2 Constant "Low Battery" shutdown

My PRS-T2 is constantly telling me I have a low battery and shutting itself off. It was doing this every few page turns, but now I can't even open a book.

I know the battery is full as I left it plugged into the wall over night, and plugged into my computer for several hours as well. The battery indicator reads full, and I can click "Applications" and look around at notes, and settings. I can even pull up the EULA, and turn the page dozens of times without the device shutting down.

Once in a while it'll work fine until I put it to sleep, and wake it up and start reading again, then it'll tell me "Low Battery" after a few page turns. It then keeps doing this every page turn or two every time I restart.

I've tried doing a hard reset, but that doesn't seem to help, the problem keeps occurring.

My T2 is Version 1.1.00.15240

Any ideas as to what I could do? Or is this just junk now?

SONY 7 years old firmware was better than today

Although any kind of deep research today I cannot find NOTHING comprarable to Sony for quality of offline dictionaries, user experience, global note management, format of books readable! Not a perfect system but still the best. Kindle Voyager maybe is super but is not my philosopy to not read ebook or go everytime through calibre hacks

there is any way I can pay a fee, have an HACK I can bring this system on an android eink device?

We deserve it!

PRS-T1 unRooting

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I bought a second PRS-T1 today and figured I'd root it.

I did a bunch of research and reading but I don't see instructions on how to unroot (deroot?) a reader if you aren't happy with it. Is it reversible?

I'm also open to suggestions on preferred root package, browser apps or any other insight.

PRS-T1 eInk Screen Variation??

A few months back I got my first PRS-T1 used on ebay. It was in beautiful condition.

I decided to pick up a second, which I got even cheaper, just to root.

I received the second one today and was shocked that the background is whiter and the text blacker.

Was there normal variation between units? Was there some sort of running change at Sony? Is my first one just not right then... and does Sony support these for repair/replace?

Annotations Exporter

In February 2012 Yoths wrote a small tool for exporting annotations from the Sony PRS-T1 to HTML. After a few updates he disappeared from the forum and I have been unable to contact him. He did leave behind the sourcecode.

The program still does contains some bugs and I took it upon myself to try to squash those bugs. Not only that, but I also extended the program to also export annotations (and markings) from the Kobo readers that support annotations. Therefore I renamed the application from 'PRST1AnnotationExporter' to 'Annotation Exporter'.

This is the first release.

It supports:
- Highlights (text selection) for Sony PRS-Tx and Kobo
- Text annotations (text selection + typed note) for Sony PRS-Tx and Kobo
- Drawing annotations (text selection + painted note) Sony PRS-Tx only
- For ePub books, the original selected text can be expanded (e.g. to avoid the 200-characters-limit).
- Design your own export style, default and simple included

It DOES NOT support:
- Drawing annotations made by painting directly on a page (without text selection)

It still contains one bug that sometimes appears while exporting to HTML that has to do with the text expansion. I cannot fix this without a testcase. If other bugs turn up, please let me know.

PRS-T1 rooting / install apps on firmware 1.0.07.05070

Hello,

got a PRS T1. it comes with firmware 1.0.07.05070. Actually all i want to do is installing a few apps, that do not require root on normal tablet.
But to install on PRS T1 i need root anyway ? Is that correct ?

So if i need root, how to ? I found rooting packages for firmwares up to 1.0.05.
But what about 1.0.07 ?

I have been trying to embed a font in an epub and get to render on a PRS-T3, but no luck so far. Has anyone got embedded fonts working with the firmware 1.1.01.17210 ?

PRS 350 locked up after failed charge

I bought a charger that was supposed to charge 'ereaders' but it was only 200mA and it didn't work. I read a thread here that suggested i needed at least 750mA so i bought one with 1000mA output.

Unfortunately, that too failed. After maybe 20 seconds i again got the 'charging stopped' screen -' no power supply is being detected'.

Doubly unfortunate, because this time i can't seem to get rid of this screen. I've stuck a paper clip in the reset hole, but to no avail.

Can anyone help please?

PS I now have a Sumvision Micro power supply with 5.2v 2000mA output. Would it be safe to give this a try?

PRS-T1 Resize with Rupor-resize

How do you use the rupor-resize to resize the PRS-T1 1.0.5?

After extraction, I plugged in PRS-T1 (rooted with rupor-minimal), enabled Data Transfer mode, loaded the flash-reader.bat, and pressed Y

But after restart, the Internal memory is still 37mB.

What is wrong?

Mac OS 10.4, Adobe Digital and eReadders

This question may have been discussed before, but I can't seem to find the answers I need.

Which version(s) of ADE will run on Mac OS 10.4?

Will any versions of ADE "see" a Sony eReader in OS 10.4?

Will any Sony Reader App Setup (the one in the Settings folder) install on OS 10.4?

I thought I read somewhere that if an eReader has been authorized by ADE on PC, and then if you login to ADE on a Mac with the same DRM ID, then you can sideload books downloaded in ADE on the Mac to the eReader that had been authenticated on the PC. When i try to do that the books don't open, and instead get the "Protected Be DRM" warning.

I installed ADE 1.7. I've tried to sideload the books onto a PRS-350 and a T3 with the same results. The Set-up app on both readers gave the same message: "this app will not run on this OS."

Buggers...!!

PRS-T1 Occasional Freeze / Crash

I was just saying on another thread here that my family has three PRS-T1's and never found them unstable at all.

That's apparently no longer true. The newest, purchased on ebay new-in-box more than a month or two ago has been having issues all of a sudden.

It's used heavily and twice in the last week, just reading a book, it has started flashing back and forth between the shutdown circle arrows thing and a blank screen.

The only way to stop it has been to hit the recessed reset button, which stops the flashing, and then hitting the power button to restart the unit.

I know 'new' is relative, but it was as close to new as you can probably get. Any advice? I've never seen this behavior on out two older previously owned units.

PRS T3 reader not responding

I have a Sony PRS T3 reader and it freezes up when disconnected from A/C charger. When I plug it into the PC the yellow light flashes and nothing happens. I have done a soft reset, hard reset when plugged in to the wall charger, I formatted the the memory and followed everything I have read. I also have another PRS T3 reader that my wife uses and it works fine with no problems.

PRS-T3 Hyperlinks in T3 (and possible in other Sony models)

For personal reasons I do not like the hyperlinks that are underlined, for they give a bad aspect when eg one combines the hyperlink with other formatters like SUP.

However, the inclusion of
Code:
a {
    text-decoration: none;
}
in the CSS also removed the functionality in Sony T3 and Gitden (android ereader) but works eg in Calibre.

I have relatively many hyperlinks so I would prefer to use only one declaration instead of workarounds like SPAN and the like.

Any idea of a suitable formatting?

Sony ereader loads 274 "books" for every book I load

It's the PRS300. I just put two books on there and it says I have 548 books. It does break down the two books (which are very short--like only 20k words each) by title (it shows each book as 274 books) and I can read them, but it also breaks them up into a lot of divisions, maybe by chapter.

I've sideloaded the two books manually and loaded them via Calibre. The results are the same either way.

The thing is it takes about twenty minutes for the books to load and also about twenty minutes for the books to load when I turn on the ereader. (It's like it's loading 548 books!)

There have been times it has loaded and opened properly. But then this sort of thing happens.

Any ideas or is this thing just impossibly obsolete?

Update: There are actually 548 books on the ereader! At first I thought they were just chapter headings but no, there are actually 548 books there (all of the same two!). That's why it's taking so long!

But what would cause so many books to be loaded?

PRS-T1 New T-1

I have used a 650 for many years, successfully I might add. Today, I had an opportunity to purchase a new, discounted T1 ($39). Now I have to learn this system. But first, I have a question. Is there a firmware update/hack that I should consider? I did load one on my 650 several years ago, and enjoyed using that one. Also any other tips/tricks would be appreciated. For the time being I will just try to manage the device with Caliber, like I did on the 650. That's were my library resides.
