Demo Mode?

All of a sudden, my aging Sony T1, after several battery problems, has switched to Demo mode. And I can't figure out how to switch back to the regular mode. Would appreciate any advice.

I assume Demo means Demonstration and not Demolition although I'm starting to wonder.
